Christopher Kane celebrated his 10 year anniversary of showcasing in London Fashion Week with a major throwback to his childhood!
Return of the ‘Crocs’?
Just like we humans have started to accept ourselves and come out boldly as we are (with a little touch up though!), Crocs were quite the prevalent talk of the Christopher Kane show at the London Fashion Week this year!
The shoe that’s considered as “100 percent effective birth control” – Crocs! Were the highlight of his show this very show that recently happened, showcasing Spring 2017 collection.
“I always work with unexpected items and combinations, transforming the everyday into desirable luxury. I wanted to bring my own stamp and DNA to Crocs’ classic clog shoe and achieve something really special. The marble print feels very earthy and I often think of Crocs in a very grounded way, worn with either an evening dress or with jeans, and adding the rock crystals brings a bit of luxury to this everyday style. Crocs are arguably the most comfortable shoe, I love that they are slightly awkward and might be perceived by some as ‘ugly’. They have a very naïve and childlike shape which I especially like when they look extra clunky on the foot,” said Christopher Kane in a press release about deciding to include crocs in the show.

The Collection
The title of his collection was Make Do and Mend, also the name of a 1940’s British government pamphlet of how-to tips for women about adapting their clothes to last longer in times of rationing. Even though the collection did not have much to do with the 40’s style but, the reworking on recycling was more to do with memories! Kicking back his childhood in thinking about the Catholic grotto of Carfin in Scotland, and the iconography of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the patron saint of his school, Taylor High; The ideas, the “alchemy,” which happens when old ideas are seen in new ways, led him, somehow, to pick out rocks, crystals, and semiprecious stones to be set as dangly earrings and necklaces and also in the footwear! These are just an addition to the store of materials and memories that will go into his mental library as he passes this career momentous.
The Verdict
Crocs are officially cool, deal with it
One can obviously see how people are reacting to this weirdly chic collaboration. We’d say people should keep calm and let this fad get to the peak of the fashion first. Once in a while, a shocker can set things straight. After all those hairy slippers from the house of Gucci, let’s be not be a little too critical about them, Crocs!
